Cellmark was pleased to achieve a perfect score in the 2020 Great Crested Newt(GCN) eDNA proficiency testing scheme.
Cellmark correctly identified all 10 ‘blind’ samples as positive (1 high-level sample and 3 low-level samples), negative (5 samples) or inhibited (one sample) for the presence of great crested newt (northern crested newt) eDNA.
Cellmark is one of only 5 laboratories in the UK to achieve a perfect score in the 2020 eDNA proficiency testing scheme. Proficiency testing provides an independent assessment of the competence of participating laboratories. Together with the use of validated methods, proficiency testing is an essential element of laboratory quality assurance.
Cellmark’s GCN eDNA analysis service conforms to Natural England’s approved protocol (WC1067) which ensures that the results can be used to support GCN license applications. In fact, for 2020 Cellmark has been selected as the contracted tester for Natural England.
